JIACC refers 9 people to judiciary on corruption charges, including gov’t officials

The Board of Jordan’s Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC) referred to the Public Prosecution the investigation file of a government university’s former financial director, its former budget chief and its head teller on suspicion of corruption.

In a JIACC statement issued on Sunday, the charges included repeated embezzlement, job dereliction, waste of public money, and stealth of thousands of Jordanian dinars from rewards allocated to their beneficiaries in various fields.

The JIACC board also referred three senior employees from another public university on suspicion of employee negligence and waste of public money, the statement added.

In addition, the Board referred to the juidiciary a ministry secretary-general, an affiliated body’s director-general and a company manager working in the tourism field, on suspicion of job negligence and public money watse, the JIACC pointed out.

Jordan sees 84 Covid-19 cases with zero virus fatalities last week-MoH

The Ministry of Health announced 84 Covid-19 new cases were recorded in the Kingdom over the 18th epidemiological week of 2022, with zero fatalities, bringing the caseload to 1,696, 054 and death toll to 14,066.

To date, there are currently 54 active Covid-19 cases countrywide, according to the media statement issued by the Ministry of Health on Sunday.

The statement added that the number of patients who were admitted to hospitals stood at 7, while 12 cases have recovered and discharged.

According to the roundup, the total number of recoveries recorded over the 18th week, which runs from April 30 to May 6, whether at hospitals or at home, stood at 152, bringing the total to 1,681, 934 since the outbreak began.

Moreover, the number of Covid-19 patients still receiving treatment at hospitals countrywide has reached 9.

The statement also indicated that occupancy of ICU beds in the northern, central and southern regions, has reached 1%, 1%, and 0%, respectively.

With regard to testing, 7, 787 tests were conducted over the targeted week, 1.08 per cent of which were positive.

Since March 2020, the total number of tests administered has increased to 16, 765, 117, the briefing noted.

With regard to vaccination, the statement announced the total number of people who received the first COVID-19 dose reached 4,760,909, while the double-jabbed recipients hit 4,482, 433.

Drug dealer arrested in security raid in northern Badia-PSD

The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) arrested a drug dealer and promoter and seized narcotics in his possession, in a security raid.

In a statement on Sunday, the Public Security Directorate (PSD)’s media spokesperson said the AND agents tracked tips about a person suspected of trafficking and promoting narcotic substances.

All investigations confirmed the suspect’s involvement and possession of a “large” amount of narcotic substances. Then, the AND set up a plan to raid his place and seize the prohibited possessions, the spokesperson added.

The suspect was raided in a northern Badia region, and was arrested after “fierce” resistance. 42 palm-sized hashish sheets and 12,000 Captagon pills were seized, the official announced.

On the PSD’s anti-drug policy, the spokesperson said its AND is continuing its security campaigns against drug dealers and promoters and harnesses all its intelligence, operational and logistical capabilities in this regard.
