Tetracore Announces USDA Purchase of ASF and FMD Diagnostic Test Kits

(Tetracore®) is pleased to announce its partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to provide a stock of PCR kits for both African Swine Fever (ASF) and Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD). These kits were purchased for use in the National Animal Vaccine and Veterinary Countermeasures Bank to ensure that the U.S. is prepared for a possible outbreak of a high-consequence Foreign Animal Disease (FAD). As the only USDA licensed PCR kits for these diseases, Tetracore’s VetAlert™ ASF and FMD Diagnostic Test kits will be critical in minimizing the potentially devastating impacts of a FAD outbreak.

The presence of ASF in the Dominican Republic represents a looming threat to the welfare of food production in the United States. Outbreaks of FMD and ASF can result in devastating economic consequences for the livestock industry. This threat necessitates readily available, accurate, and validated diagnostics. An immediate surge of incoming samples to animal health testing laboratories would quickly exhaust available countermeasures. To address the need for laboratory surge capacity in an outbreak scenario, the USDA has asked Tetracore to stock their USDA-licensed test kits for FMD and ASF.

Executive plan to address pandemic’s learning loss launched

Amman: Ministry of Education has drafted an executive plan for educational interventions to address learning loss due Covid-19 pandemic-induced effects, in cooperation with Education and Youth Support Project funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The ministry, in a press statement on Thursday, said the plan, which spans over a 3- year period, aims to make specialized learning interventions to address educational loss, noting that it opened earlier this month a workshop on developing a national plan for remedial teaching 2023-2025.

Response to problem of the pandemic’s learning loss was completed by conducting national studies and assessments to design interventions based on data-based evidence that would enhance student learning and achieve the desired goals, the statement said.

During the past two years, the ministry implemented contingency plans to reduce education losses and avoid widening disparities in student opportunities and help teachers and parents to face the new pandemic-related difficulties, the statement added.

Jordan’s various sectors, institutions and state agencies are engaging with the beginning of the bicentennial in a comprehensive modernization project based on “qualified and efficient” human capital, the ministry said.

Success of this modernization process is linked to making “qualitative” transformations in Jordan’s education sector based on expertise in dealing with crises and adopting a participatory approach in all action stages, it added.

The ministry said its institutional work will shift from emergency plans implemented to address the pandemic’s effects to a new stage based on “strategic” schemes based on studies and evidence, in accordance with international best practices.

The plan’s leadership and creativity axis aims to preparing talents for future jobs requirements, as the executive program’s priorities for 2023-2025 feature multiple initiatives, primarily implementation of comprehensive activities to compensate educational losses, improve students’ performance in global exams, and train and build teacher capacities.

Turkish donation campaign raises $6.1 billion for earthquake survivors

Amman: A new Turkish donation campaign for earthquake victims, raised over that $6.1 billion in 7 hours, According to Anadolu Agency.

Many Turkish television and radio stations joined forces late Wednesday to hold an aid drive named Türkiye One Heart to help the survivors of last week’s devastating earthquakes.

Companies, institutions, organizations and individuals made donations to the campaign via a joint live broadcast through 213 television and 562 radio stations.

The campaign, which was broadcast by TV channels and radio stations in Turkey, Azerbaijan and Turkish Cyprus, received wide support from businessmen, companies, politicians, athletes and actors.

Over the course of 7 hours of live broadcasting, the campaign received large donations amounting to over 115.1 billion Turkish liras ($6.1 billion).

Speaking to the campaign, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country aims to construct new and safe buildings within one year, to replace every building destroyed in the double earthquake.

“As of March, we will lay the foundations for 30,000 housing units, thus announcing the beginning the reconstruction of the demolished areas,” Erdogan added.

Saudi Crown Prince launches New Murabba Development Co. to develop world’s largest downtown in Riyadh

Amman: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman, on Thursday launched of the New Murabba Development Company (NMDC) which aims to develop the world’s largest modern downtown in Riyadh, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The New Murabba project will be built around the concept of sustainability, featuring green areas and walking and cycling paths that will enhance the quality of life by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and community activities.

It will also feature an iconic museum, a technology and design university, a multipurpose immersive theater, and more than 80 entertainment and culture venues, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The project will be situated at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads to the North West of Riyadh, over an area of 19 square kilometers, to accommodate hundreds of thousands of residents.

The project will offer more than 25 million sqm of floor area, featuring more than 104,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, and more than 980,000 sqm of retail space, as well as 1.4 million sqm of office space, 620,000 sqm of leisure assets, and 1.8 million sqm of space dedicated to community facilities.

NMDC will develop the project and build the “Mukaab”, an exceptional iconic landmark featuring the latest innovative technologies. The design of the “Mukaab” includes first-of-its-kind facilities and will be one of the largest built structures in the world, standing 400m high, 400m wide, and 400m long. The cubic shape of the “Mukaab” will ensure the ultimate utilization of space to accommodate the technologies necessary to develop the icon.

The launch of NMDC is expected to add SAR180 billion to non-oil GDP and create 334,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2030.

The project is due to be completed in 2030.

House speaker receives Palestinian delegation, vows support to recognizing State of Palestine campaign

Amman: Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause is “every Jordanian’s cause”.

In a meeting with a Palestinian delegation on Thursday, Safadi underlined that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, will remain supportive of Palestinians until they achieve their legitimate rights on their national soil, and on top of that is the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

“We in the Lower House have taken it upon ourselves, in all forums, to place the Palestinian cause at the top of our agenda,” Safadi underscored. He called for coordinating joint efforts to end injustice against the Palestinian people and support their steadfastness.

For their part, members of the Palestinian delegation lauded Jordan’s firm stances under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, the first defender of the rights of the Palestinian people, in all regional and international forums.

The meeting saw the agreement on mechanisms for joint cooperation in defending the rights of the Palestinian people and arrangements for launching a campaign within the Jordanian Parliament to support Palestine.

The meeting was attended by head of the “Recognition of the State of Palestine” Campaign, Ahmad Tamimi, the President of the Palestinian National Council, and members of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

The delegation explained that the campaign, launched by the PLO, targets world parliaments, academics and civil society institutions to urge the world to recognize the State of Palestine, based on the speech of Palestine delivered by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the 77th session of the United Nations.

The Palestinian delegation included member of the PLO Central Council, Abdullah Abdullah, and the Director General of the PLO Human Rights Department, and the campaign’s general coordinator, Qasem Awad, in the presence of First Deputy Speaker, MP Ahmad Khalayleh, MP Khalil Attia, MP Ali Tarawneh, MP Yazan Shdeifat, MP Talal Nsour and MP Taiseer Krieshan.

The meeting was held in coordination with MP Khalil Attia.

House speaker receives Jordan’s 2021 human rights report

Amman: Lower House Speaker, Ahmed Safadi, said Parliament pays “remarkable” importance to Jordan’s state of human rights and public freedoms to reflect the Kingdom’s efforts in this regard aimed to preserve rule of law and instill justice and equality principles.

Receiving on Thursday the 18th annual report on Jordan’s Human Rights State for 2021, delivered by Chair of National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) Board of Trustees, Samar Hajj Hassan, Safadi valued the center’s role and efforts in assessing the national human rights situation.

Safadi also said the House’s specialized committees will examine the report’s recommendations and follow up its observations, in compliance with Royal directives in this regard.

For her part, Hajj Hassan expressed NCHR’s appreciation for the House’s legislative and oversight role, which would guarantee modernization of Jordan’s legislative system, promote human rights and strengthen rule of law, in a bid to implement His Majesty’s vision to achieve more comprehensive reforms.

Hajj Hassan noted NCHR is “proud” of the existing cooperation with Lower House and is looking forward to achieving more joint action in human rights fields.

Promise Welfare Society sends aid to earthquake victims in Syria

Amman: The Amman-based Promise Welfare Society (PWS) launched a campaign to support people affected by Syria earthquake.

The PWS purchased 150 tents, worth JD15,000 and also prepared 3,000 parcels laden with winter clothes, foodstuffs and blankets, in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) for the affected people in Syria.

The PWS, at directives issued by its president, Her Highness Princess Alia, prepared multiple convoys loaded with foodstuffs and relief supplies to Syria’s affected governorates.

In a statement, PWS Director General, Azmi Shaheen, lauded efforts of all associations, institutions and individuals that supported PWS financially and morally and contributed to providing parcels to support affected people in Syria.

On Wednesday, he said PWS handed 2,000 parcels to JHCO, as other convoys are being prepared to be dispatched to Syria, including foodstuffs, clothes, and blankets.

He expressed appreciation for the role of the PWS’s students, who worked “diligently and hard” in sorting and packing parcels and relief materials.
