Amman: A new Turkish donation campaign for earthquake victims, raised over that $6.1 billion in 7 hours, According to Anadolu Agency.

Turkish television and radio stations joined forces late Wednesday to hold an aid drive to help the survivors of last week’s devastating earthquakes

Many Turkish television and radio stations joined forces late Wednesday to hold an aid drive named Türkiye One Heart to help the survivors of last week’s devastating earthquakes.

Companies, institutions, organizations and individuals made donations to the campaign via a joint live broadcast through 213 television and 562 radio stations.

The campaign, which was broadcast by TV channels and radio stations in Turkey, Azerbaijan and Turkish Cyprus, received wide support from businessmen, companies, politicians, athletes and actors.

Over the course of 7 hours of live broadcasting, the campaign received large donations amounting to over 115.1 billion Turkish liras ($6.1 billion).

Speaking to the campaign, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country aims to construct new and safe buildings within one year, to replace every building destroyed in the double earthquake.

“As of March, we will lay the foundations for 30,000 housing units, thus announcing the beginning the reconstruction of the demolished areas,” Erdogan added.
