During a meeting held Sunday, chaired by Musa Maaytah, board of commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced that the period set by Political Parties Law to rectify status of Jordan’s political parties has expired.

To date, the IEC said 26 parties met the terms and conditions of the law in force, adding that one party has completed requirements to hold its founding conference.

In a statement Sunday, IEC’s official spokesperson, Mohammad Khair Rawashdeh, said 19 parties failed to meet requirements to rectify their status, partly due to failure to meet one condition or more as set by the law, or inability to submit requests to complete their rectification process.

Rawashdeh indicated that percentage of Jordanian women, who joined Jordan’s political parties stood at 40.3%, while men rate amounted to 59.68%.

Number of female youth under the age of 35 recorded a 15.8% rate, while party members between 18-22 ages saw a 9.6% rate, he added.

Rawashdeh noted parties that failed to rectify their status, or submit requests to complete their rectification process with expiry of the legal period are deemed dissolved according to paragraph (B / 40 of the Parties Law No. (7) for 2022, adding that IEC registration department will notify those parties of this matter.
