Zarqa: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, on Thursday inaugurated the Second International Medical Conference of the Faculty of Medicine at the Hashemite University (HU). Held in cooperation with Prince Hamzah Hospital, the conference was themed: "Transforming Healthcare and Medical Education: Integrating Personalized Medicine and Artificial Intelligence." A select group of academics, physicians, researchers, and decision-makers from the public and private sectors, from within and outside Jordan, participated in the conference, alongside the distinguished engagement of the HU's Faculty of Medicine students.
According to Jordan News Agency, HU President Khaled Hiyari delivered a speech at the opening ceremony emphasizing the university's commitment to raising the quality of education and training in health colleges. Hiyari noted the university seeks to build an integrated medical education system based on practical clinical education, use of virtual reality and simulation technologies, and application of artificial intelligence tools. These efforts aim to ensure a smooth transition for students to clinical training in hospitals and health centers.
The event highlights the university's role in developing medical education in Jordan and providing a training environment that integrates health and academic institutions. Hiyari added that the university has integrated artificial intelligence and health informatics courses into various health college programs. He also noted the university adopts a joint education approach, bringing together health college students to form teams capable of professional collaboration.
Dean of the College of Medicine and conference chair, Mohammed Qudah, said the conference is part of the university's plan to modernize medical education and introduce the latest technologies. Qudah emphasized that the College of Medicine continuously updates its plans and programs, enhancing skills and techniques amid rapid technological developments.
Keynote speaker Dr. Mansour addressed the importance of personalized or precision medicine, noting that artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming pillars of modern medicine. He explained that these technologies represent a revolution in healthcare, transforming diagnostic and treatment methodologies.
Dr. Amjad Al-Tariqi, chairman of the conference scientific committee, noted that contemporary topics addressing the latest scientific developments and global practices were included. The program also covered techniques to improve students' ability to handle complex cases and applied research linking theory to practice.
The conference featured scientific sessions, lectures by experts, and was accredited by the Jordan Medical Council for continuing medical education hours. The Student Interest Group participated with 18 teams presenting innovative ideas on AI and personalized medicine. The opening ceremony concluded with honoring sponsors, speakers, and participants for their contributions.
