Jeddah: Chairman of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC), Dr. Muhannad Hijazi, emphasized Jordan's commitment to fostering cooperation among oversight bodies and anti-corruption institutions at Arab, regional, and global levels.
According to Jordan News Agency, Hijazi elaborated that this approach bolsters efforts to combat corruption and promotes integrity and justice principles. His comments were made during the First Annual General Meeting of the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA-ARIN) held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting included representatives from international bodies and organizations focused on combating corruption, money laundering, and asset recovery. Hijazi described the launch of the network as a key step for facilitating communication among members to exchange information, ultimately benefiting the network's member states.
Hijazi stressed that this initiative will enhance cooperation, particularly given the network's establishment in a strategically important geographical area. He also highlighted challenges faced by regional countries, such as complex judicial procedures, challenges in linking crime to looted assets, legal disparities, and slow responses from some countries.
Moreover, Hijazi mentioned that JIACC collaborates closely with Jordanian authorities, including the Judicial Council, which has set up specialized judicial bodies and offices to address corruption cases. He also noted JIACC's partnership with the Kingdom's judiciary in recovering and managing assets acquired through corruption.
