Baghdad: The opening session of the 34th Arab Summit, hosted by the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, kicked off on Saturday. A number of Arab leaders and their representatives attended the event, alongside guests from several countries and UN organizations.
According to Jordan News Agency, in his speech at the opening ceremony, the head of the previous session, Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, highlighted that Bahrain proposed numerous initiatives approved by the Bahrain Summit. These initiatives reflect a pan-Arab consistent position in supporting the Palestinian people in establishing their independent state on their national soil. The Foreign Minister added that Bahrain will remain committed to following up on the implementation of all these initiatives.
Additionally, he noted that the 34th Baghdad Summit is being held amid major regional and international challenges, expressing appreciation for the lifting of US sanctions on Syria and acknowledging Saudi Arabia's role in this regard. The Foreign Minister stated Bahrain's categorical rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land, affirming the country's support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
The Bahraini top diplomat also expressed hope that the summit would make decisions to achieve Arab unity and serve common interests.
