The Board of Directors of the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) discussed with the Chinese ambassador to Jordan, Chen Chuandong, multiple issues facing Jordanian importers and traders who deal commercially with the East Asian country.

According to a ACC statement released on Saturday, discussions went over ways to facilitate the mechanism to grant entry visas to Jordanian traders to China and the need to launch coordination and cooperation with the Chinese embassy’s economic and commercial section in this regard.

ACC Chairman Khalil Haj Tawfiq stressed the need to continue joint contact to facilitate trade and promote China’s trade and investment opportunities to Jordan’s sectors to serve mutual interests, calling on organizing a Chinese economic delegation’s visit to the Kingdom.

In addition, he pointed to the need to reorganize the permanent Chinese products fair in Jordan, which was suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic crisis, in a bid to serve importers and the commercial sector in Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen, which contributes to making the Kingdom a trade destination for the region’s countries.

In this regard, Hajj Tawfiq affirmed the ACC’s readiness to cooperate with the Chinese authorities to hold the fair as soon as possible.

He also pointed to the need to diversify the base of of China’s commodity imports from Jordan, which contributes to reducing the apparent deficit in the trade balance between the two countries.

The Kingdom’s imports from China amounted to about JD2.2 billion during 2021, compared to JD72 million in exports.
