Agricultural Export Support Program Strengthened to Boost Competitiveness

Amman: The Ministry of Agriculture said it is continuing efforts to strengthen the Kingdom's agricultural export sector through a support program designed to improve competitiveness, open new markets, and increase farmers' and exporters' returns. Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat said the program aims to help Jordanian agricultural products reach wider international markets, contributing to higher incomes for farmers and supporting overall economic growth.

According to Jordan News Agency, the committee overseeing export support has begun its work and is holding regular meetings to assess applications in line with approved criteria. This follows a Cabinet decision to extend the program supporting exports of fresh fruits and vegetables, which covers 50 percent of air freight costs and 25 percent of sea freight costs.

Khraisat reported that the program has already delivered measurable results, with 19 exporting companies benefiting so far, while total financial support exceeded JD1.059 million, including around JD5,200 allocated to sea freight support. He noted that Jordanian agricultural products have strengthened their presence in several international markets, including Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, and Denmark, reflecting growing demand and confidence in their quality.

More than 500 farmers have also benefited directly from the initiative, he said, adding that the ministry is working to further develop marketing tools and expand export opportunities to improve the sustainability of the agricultural sector and support rural livelihoods. He stressed that export support remains a key pillar of the ministry's strategy to reduce logistics costs, strengthen value chains, and maximize returns for producers, positioning Jordan as a reliable exporter of high-quality agricultural goods.
