Amman: Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khraisat, engaged in discussions with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Jordan, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, focusing on strengthening cooperation and addressing key issues that align with the Kingdom's sustainable development priorities.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture released a statement on Tuesday highlighting Khraisat's emphasis on the significance of partnership with ESCWA in bolstering Jordan's efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The discussions underscored a particular focus on the agricultural and rural sectors, improved food security, sustainable natural resource management, and capacity building, while also exploring how to leverage ESCWA's technical expertise for member states.

Khraisat also outlined the Ministry's initiatives in executing the Economic Modernization Vision, aimed at evolving the agricultural sector and enhancing its resilience against challenges such as climate change and water scarcity. Dr. Al-Mashat reaffirmed ESCWA's dedication to ongoing collaboration with the Ministry, emphasizing technical support, capacity building, and the advancement of programs that align with Jordan's national priorities and the Economic Modernization Vision.

The meeting explored potential cooperation in food security, the green economy, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable water management, and fostering innovation and digital transformation within the agricultural sector. Additionally, discussions included preparing economic studies and policies, empowering women and youth in rural areas, all contributing towards achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.
