Amman: Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khreisat conducted an inspection of the Agricultural Marketing Office at the Amman Central Vegetable and Fruit Market, evaluating the marketing processes at the site.
According to Jordan News Agency, Khreisat highlighted the crucial partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Greater Amman Municipality during his visit. He instructed ministry staff at the market office to ensure that the quality of agricultural products meets technical standards, thereby ensuring high-quality offerings for both local and international markets.
The minister also assessed the office’s responsibility in monitoring pesticide residues in products intended for local consumption and export.
Khreisat engaged in discussions with Saadi Abu Hammad, President of the Vegetable and Fruit Traders and Exporters Association, focusing on enhancing collaboration between the ministry and the private sector, tackling challenges in local marketing, and eliminating hindrances to export and market flow.
As part of the tour, the minister visited a refrigerated warehouse, scrutinizing storage procedures and directing staff to oversee crop quantities stored. He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to bolstering partnerships with the private sector and expanding refrigerated storage capabilities.
Additionally, Khreisat expressed support for local cold storage centers, particularly in managing plant health protocols for imported citrus requiring quarantine.
The minister’s tour also included a visit to a modern date sorting and grading facility operated by a Jordanian investor, where he emphasized the ministry’s support for specialized agricultural investments that boost the quality and competitiveness of Jordanian products.
