Amman: Assistant Secretary-General for Agricultural Marketing and Quality at the Ministry of Agriculture, Ayman Oran, announced that the ministry continues to implement a series of policies and programs guided by the Economic Modernization Vision and the government's executive program.
According to Jordan News Agency, Oran highlighted that these policies are designed to foster growth in Jordan's agricultural sector, promote investment, ensure food security, and enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian products in both local and international markets. These efforts align with Royal directives to transform challenges into developmental and economic opportunities.
In a statement to "Petra," Oran explained that the ministry has adopted integrated policies for agricultural exports to guarantee the smooth flow of Jordanian products to foreign markets, while also striving to open new markets and maintain traditional ones. He noted that the ministry has provided direct support for air and sea agricultural exports amounting to approximately JD2 million, which has bolstered the competitiveness and sustainability of national products despite regional and logistical challenges.
Oran emphasized the ministry's dedication to balancing export requirements with local market needs. By ensuring an abundance of agricultural products and stable market quantities, the ministry has succeeded in maintaining price stability and preventing shortages of essential goods.
In addition, Oran highlighted the ministry's focus on providing agricultural inputs and encouraging investment in sectors such as pesticides, fertilizers, veterinary preparations, vaccines, and seeds. This approach has helped curb local price increases despite global trends and positively impacted farmers' ability to continue production amid rising costs.
To enhance self-sufficiency, Oran pointed out the ministry's efforts to stimulate investment in crops previously in short supply, such as potatoes, garlic, carrots, and onions. These policies have achieved high levels of self-sufficiency and generated production surpluses suitable for processing and export, thereby increasing the added value of Jordanian agricultural products.
He further mentioned the ministry's support for expanding the cultivation of crops that can withstand transportation and storage challenges and offer promising opportunities in foreign markets, particularly watermelon. This diversification of agricultural exports has contributed to increased farmers' incomes.
In the livestock sector, Oran stated that supportive policies have led to increased table egg production, meeting local market demands and providing export quantities despite regional competition. The ministry has also focused on developing the hatchery industry and broiler chicken production, capitalizing on Jordan's favorable climate, suitable investment environment, and technical expertise.
