A policy dialogue Sunday urged the need to lift impediments facing the inclusion of persons with disabilities and all students in schools and education irrespective of their background and race.
President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) HRH Prince Mired bin Raad, who chaired the dialogue session in Amman, emphasised the importance of diversity and inclusion in the Jordanian schools, adding that inclusion must be taken seriously and that there must be fast measures that could be taken across the world.
The high-profile policy dialogue session, which was concluded today, saw the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Education, UNESCO and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Prince Mired stressed the need to develop the necessary solutions to solve any obstacles or problems facing inclusion and diversity in education and find solutions to them, noting the will of the national institutions to achieve success in this matter.
Minister of Education, in turn, Wajih Owais, said the Ministry and HCD are conducting a follow-up to a high-level policy dialogue with a wide range of specialists and partners in the field of education to adhere to the Jordan Declaration on Inclusion and Diversity in Education.
Owais explained that inclusive education is a priority for his ministry and a key element in the national plan for education (Education Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Education 2018-2025).
He indicated that the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with HCD, is inviting the Ministry’s partners, international and national stakeholders and non-governmental organisations to join it to reconfirm the commitment to the sustainable development goals.
He emphasised that there are systems, political will and commitments on the part of all partners and key stakeholders to ensure that all students, regardless of their gender, abilities, disabilities, backgrounds and circumstances, have equal and equitable access to quality education in their homes or their host communities, with learning environments that embrace diversity and support their participation.
