Amman: Aqaba Water Company has finalized three agreements totaling approximately JD1 million to enhance water networks in Ma'an and Karak, as part of a water loss reduction initiative funded by the U.S. Embassy in Amman. The agreements were signed on Tuesday and focus on design, engineering supervision, and field survey services aimed at upgrading the water infrastructure in these governorates.
According to Jordan News Agency, the first agreement targets the rehabilitation of Ma'an's water network, involving the restructuring of the distribution system into zones, the upgrade of the Al Tahouna pumping station, and enhancements to the Al Samna and Al Tahouna reservoirs. Additionally, a local SCADA control center will be established. This project is set to benefit approximately 45,000 residents by supplying 832,000 cubic meters of water annually.
The second agreement pertains to water infrastructure improvements in the Al Lajoun Al Ghuwair and Al Samar/Ghor Al Safi systems in Karak. This includes the construction of new reservoirs, transmission lines, a pumping station, additional wells, and a SCADA control center. The upgrades aim to reduce water losses by 1.3 million cubic meters annually and increase the water supply by 864,000 cubic meters per year. Both of these agreements were awarded to Dar Al Omran Infrastructure and Environment Company.
The third agreement, awarded to Barium Contracting Company, involves a comprehensive survey of around 14,000 subscribers in Ma'an. This survey seeks to enhance billing efficiency, support remote meter reading, detect illegal water use, and contribute to the reduction of water losses.
