Cairo: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, and Senior UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, have strongly rejected any plans to forcibly displace Palestinians towards Jordan and Egypt. During their meeting on Sunday at the Arab League headquarters, the two officials expressed their firm opposition to any displacement scenario, stressing that such actions pose a threat to regional stability. They further emphasized that displacement is not a prerequisite for reconstruction, as current technological and technical capabilities and existing programs allow for reconstruction to begin with Gaza's residents remaining in their homes.

According to Jordan News Agency, the discussion also focused on the catastrophic situation in Gaza, highlighting the urgency of reinforcing the ceasefire agreement and accelerating humanitarian efforts to address the unprecedented devastation in the enclave. Jamal Rushdi, the Arab League's spokesperson, stated that displacement represents an existential threat to the Palestinian cause and is part of Israel's strategy to make Gaza uninhabitable, a scenario that is both rejected and in violation of international law.

Rushdi added that the two-state solution remains the only viable framework to ensure long-term peace and security for both Palestinians and Israelis. Without serious efforts to establish a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, the region will remain vulnerable to cycles of violence and retaliation.
