Amman: The President of the Arab Parliament, Mohamed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, condemned the statements made by Israel's extremist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, which aim to impose Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank. According to Jordan News Agency, in a statement released on Tuesday, the Arab Parliament regarded these statements as a grave threat to security, peace, and stability in the region and a flagrant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2334. This resolution condemns all Israeli actions aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the occupied Palestinian territories since 1967, including Jerusalem. Al-Yamahi underscored that all Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, are illegal under international law, as reaffirmed by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which declared the Israeli occupation and settlements as illegal on Palesti nian land. The President of the Arab Parliament reiterated the body's unequivocal rejection of these provocative calls by members of the Israeli government, which are intended to obstruct the establishment of a Palestinian state, emphasizing that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories. He urged the international community and the United Nations Security Council to take serious and decisive steps to prevent the implementation of such plans, which would destroy the prospects for peace, exacerbate tensions, deepen the suffering of the Palestinian people, and undermine the possibility of a two-state solution.
