Arab Social Affairs Ministers Discuss Key Messages of Doha Declaration

Amman: A dialogue session, titled: Social and Developmental Messages of the Doha Declaration (2025) of the Second World Social Summit, opened on Wednesday, part of the 45th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs. It was organized by the Ministry of Social Development and the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs at the Arab League in Amman.

According to Jordan News Agency, Qatari Minister of Social Development and Family, Buthaina Al Nuaimi, who chaired the session, stated that the meeting reflects a commitment by Arab states to social development issues and joint action to implement the priorities outlined in the Doha Declaration. The declaration emphasizes eradicating poverty, providing decent work opportunities for all, and promoting social inclusion as central elements of social policies. Al Nuaimi highlighted the need for joint Arab coordination to translate these priorities into actionable programs tailored to different national contexts.

Tarek El Nabulsi, Minister plenipotentiary and Director of Development and Social Policies of the Arab League, underscored the social and developmental aspects of the Doha Declaration and the Arab priorities of the conference. He noted that the declaration's political direction arises from a commitment by Arab leaders and heads of government to build a more just, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world, addressing social challenges, particularly poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion.

Nabulsi emphasized that the Social Development Summit focuses on three main pillars: eradicating poverty, achieving full and productive employment, and providing decent work opportunities for all, alongside promoting social inclusion. He also mentioned the Arab League's initiatives supporting the rights of persons with disabilities and the most vulnerable groups, including the Independent Living Initiative aimed at empowering people with disabilities and converting their products into economic opportunities.

Participants discussed aligning Arab priorities with national policies to contribute to sustainable development and social inclusion, as well as addressing global challenges highlighted in the Doha Declaration. These challenges include persistent poverty, inequality, limited access to education, health, and basic services, the digital divide, demographic changes, and the slow adaptation of social policies to economic and climate changes.

The session concluded by emphasizing the need for enhanced international solidarity, upholding human rights, and renewing commitment to multilateral action in social development, while working towards implementing the Sustainable Development Goals across social, economic, and environmental dimensions.
