Aqaba:The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed an agreement to advance a smart city initiative in Aqaba. The document, titled "Project for Strengthening Capacity for ASEZ Smart City," was signed by ASEZA Commissioner for Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Mu'tassem Hindawi and JICA Jordan Office Chief Representative Morihata Shingo.
According to Jordan News Agency, the JICA-funded project aims to create a roadmap for implementing smart city technologies in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ). This area is a significant logistics hub and a key tourism destination within Jordan's Golden Triangle.
The initiative builds on JICA's updated 15-year master plan for the ASEZ, which was finalized in late 2024. The plan includes 99 projects across various investment sectors and is part of JICA's ongoing efforts to bolster Aqaba's role as a catalyst for Jordan's economic growth.
In addition to developing the smart city master plan, the project will provide professional training, offer a study tour to Japan, and supply expert consulting services to ASEZA teams. This initiative aligns with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision.
