Amman: The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) on Saturday signed six agreements assigning Jordan Valley water management to the Water User Associations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreements involve shifting water distribution tasks to six coalitions, grouping 18 associations. This move covers more than 52 percent of the irrigated Jordan Valley area and aims to enhance water management efficiency, reduce water loss, and preserve irrigation infrastructure.
JVA Secretary General Hisham Al-Haisa emphasized the need for regular evaluation of the associations' performance using clear indicators. This approach is intended to ensure better efficiency in water management and services provided to farmers.
The JVA also pledged to provide technical and administrative support to the associations. Al-Haisa called for proposals to improve performance and upgrade services in light of current climate challenges. Currently, Water User Associations total 24, covering more than 78 percent of irrigated Jordan Valley farmlands.
