Amman: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Khalaileh on Wednesday decided to increase the Hajj quota allocated to teachers from 60 to 120 pilgrims for the 1447 AH season, including mahrams of female teachers and wives of male teachers, following directives from Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan.
According to Jordan News Agency, the move comes as part of a package of measures adopted by the government over recent months to support teachers. These measures included disbursing emergency advances to all applicants, allocating land plots for teachers' housing projects, and doubling the Royal Scholarship quota for teachers' children in higher education institutions from 5 percent to 10 percent, effective from the current academic year.
The ministry also allocated 5 percent of the total grants and loans provided by the Student Support Fund to teachers' children at universities. Additionally, the government is focusing on the maintenance of teachers' clubs, improving their services, and constructing teachers' clubs in governorates where none currently exist.
