Amman: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs launched a clean-up campaign in downtown Amman on Saturday, with the participation of volunteers from Quranic centers. This initiative is part of the implementation of the National Cleanliness and Anti-Indiscriminate Waste Dumping Strategy for the years 2026-2027.
According to Jordan News Agency, the campaign, themed "A Cleaner Environment and a More Refined Society," began at Amman's Citadel and concluded at the Grand Husseini Mosque. This effort is part of the ministry's ongoing program of clean-up campaigns across the Kingdom. In a press statement, the Ministry's Secretary-General, Dr. Ismail Khatib, emphasized the ministry's commitment to implementing directives from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein. These directives aim to promote a culture of preserving the environment, public facilities, and forests.
Khatib described the initiative as "a national responsibility and a civilized behavior," reflecting societal awareness and patriotism. He highlighted that the ministry, through its endowments directorates nationwide, carries out weekly field programs and activities within a comprehensive institutional framework. This effort is intended to foster a culture of public cleanliness and civilized behavior from a religious and ethical perspective, in partnership with various relevant entities.
On the goals of the initiative, Khatib outlined the ministry's plan to organize thousands of sermons, lectures, and field cleanliness campaigns. The ministry also aims to provide environmentally friendly tools in mosques and produce awareness materials to elevate the public's environmental consciousness. Under this initiative, volunteers cleaned public squares and facilities, removed waste, and contributed to reducing pollution. These efforts are expected to preserve natural, archaeological, and tourist sites, enhance the downtown area's civilized appearance, and highlight its historical and touristic value, especially at landmark sites like the Citadel, the Roman Amphitheater, and the Grand Husseini Mosque yards.
