Bani Mustafa: Jordan’s Message to World on Defending Women’s Rights Through Constitutional Amendments.

Amman: Minister of Social Development and Head of the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, stated that Jordan delivered a strong message to the world by preparing constitutional amendments that define women's rights and protect them from all forms of discrimination and abuse. This announcement was made during a discussion session on the "You are not alone, help is close to you" campaign, which is part of the broader "No silence, no tolerance" initiative spearheaded by the Euro-Mediterranean Feminist Initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and the University of Jordan. According to Jordan News Agency, Bani Mustafa highlighted several legislative measures, including the Human Trafficking Prevention Law, Protection from Domestic Violence Laws, and new laws to enhance women's economic participation in the labor market, social security, and businesses. A guide to protection from gender-based violence has also been published. She emphasized that Jordan has made notable progress in ensuring that legislation reflects justice and equality, addressing women's issues as integral human rights concerns, and demonstrating the state's political will to bolster women's political involvement and safeguard their rights. Nazir Obeidat, President of the University of Jordan, remarked that violence against women contradicts the values of love and beauty, emphasizing that society cannot remain passive in the face of distorted human relations and unjustified infringements. Amal Al-Awawdeh, Director of the University of Jordan's Center for Women's Studies, outlined the Center's efforts in tackling women's issues by fostering a research and educational environment that supports the development of skills for conducting studies related to women's issues. The Center actively contributes to providing academic and civil society with expertise to build a social, economic, and legal system based on gender equality and justice. Angela Martini, Head of the Political Section of the EU Delegation to Jordan, affirmed the EU Delegation's commitment to working with regional partners to address violence against women. Estebalez Lopez, Charge d'Affaires at the Spanish Embassy in Jordan, expressed pride in Spain's feminist foreign policy and thanked the European Union for its support, with the campaign being backed by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID). Hadeel Abu Hayana, Director of the Project on Improving Access to Comprehensive Services Related to Gender-Based Violence, explained that the campaign aims to link various forms of violence against women and girls with specialized services available in Jordan. The campaign will engage local communities to raise awareness and disseminate information about these services, thereby enhancing access for victims seeking assistance.
