The Cabinet Sunday approved a law regulating the work of the customs police and the ranks and insignia for police officers.

The approved law would set conditions for those appointed in the customs department and to linking the salary of customs police officers to their rank and their duties, tasks and responsibilities.

The law would regulate provisions related to customs control and binding and activate disciplinary procedures by creating a customs discipline unit.

The Cabinet approved financial and economic regulations for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority. The draft law aims to encourage investment and tackle obstacles facing enterprises registered in the Aqaba region.

The draft law would add tourism activity to the economic activities covered by the provisions of the law and enable the authority to accept or reject the application for re-registration of a legally cancelled establishment after submitting a clearance from the relevant authorities.

Also, the Cabinet approved the labour medical, preventive and curative care law for 2023. The law comes to develop legal provisions for occupational safety and health standards in line with international standards.

It would provide preventive and curative medical care to workers during a work injury or disease caught at a workplace.

The Cabinet meeting approved the Occupational Safety and Health Law and the Prevention of Occupational Hazards in Institutions for 2023.

It approved the mandating reasons for the draft Social Development Law for 2023 ahead of sending it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau.

The draft law is aimed at updating the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) law, which has been in effect for about 65 years.

The Cabinet agreed to start purchasing wheat and barley crops from farmers for the 2022/2023 agricultural season.

The Cabinet approved Jordan’s membership to the Islamic Organisation for Food Security and the promotion of Jordan as a “centre” for grain distribution in the region.
