Beijing: China announced plans to implement additional tariffs of 55% on beef imports from certain countries, including Brazil and the US, starting in 2026 if import volumes exceed designated quotas.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Chinese Commerce Ministry has initiated an investigation to assess whether the increased import volume of beef products has caused harm to domestic industries. The investigation seeks to establish whether there is a causal relationship between the rise in import volumes and any potential damage to the local market.
The ministry reported that the investigation concluded the surge in imported beef has significantly harmed China's domestic industry, establishing a direct link between the import increase and the domestic industry's difficulties. Consequently, the additional tariffs will be enforced beginning January 1, 2026, and will remain in effect for three years.
