Amman: Chinese Ambassador in Amman Guo Wei expressed China's appreciation for Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in facilitating the delivery of both Chinese and international aid to Gaza amid the ongoing Israeli conflict.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ambassador Wei, during a meeting with journalists, highlighted the recent announcement by Chinese President Xi Jinping of $100 million in aid aimed at supporting the Palestinian people and Gaza Strip. This assistance is part of China's broader efforts to mitigate humanitarian challenges in Gaza and promote recovery and reconstruction initiatives.
Wei emphasized that the announcement of the aid package was made during a joint press conference between President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron, reflecting China's commitment to the Palestinian people amidst the severe humanitarian conditions in the region. He also shared that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed gratitude to President Xi Jinping for China's initiative, which showcases the enduring relationship between the two parties.
The ambassador further noted that during Xi's meeting with Macron, the leaders agreed to collaborate on achieving a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue. Wei expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has been ongoing for over two years, and reiterated China's commitment to providing humanitarian aid through various channels including the United Nations, Egypt, and Jordan.
Wei also conveyed that President Xi views the Palestinian issue as a critical test for the global governance system, urging the international community to address the conflict's root causes and fulfill its responsibilities to resolve the historical injustices faced by the Palestinian people. He reaffirmed China's longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, noting that China only established diplomatic relations with Israel in the early 1990s, and continues to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in alignment with international law and the 1967 borders.
