Amman: Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani clarified his recent remarks on the state's use of digital communication tools, emphasizing that this does not undermine the role of professional media as the "fourth estate." Momani addressed these points on his social media accounts after his statements at the Tawasol 2026 Forum sparked public debate.
According to Jordan News Agency, Momani stressed that his comments during the panel were intended to highlight the need to empower and upgrade professional media to align with digital advancements. He underscored the importance of strengthening both public and private media, alongside government spokesperson networks, to ensure accurate information dissemination and combat misinformation.
Momani noted the irony that the criticisms of his remarks were largely aired on social media, the same platform he used to clarify his position. He observed that most of the critiques came from journalists acting as independent influencers through personal accounts rather than through established media outlets.
"This situation exemplifies the transformation in communication tools and public debate," Momani stated, referring to his discussion about engaging with digital activists and influencers. He reiterated that his focus was on adapting to new communication trends and enhancing public outreach, not on replacing or diminishing the role of professional journalism.
To avoid misinterpretations, Momani included a complete video recording of his forum comments in his social media post. He concluded by reaffirming that addressing misinformation requires utilizing both traditional and digital communication channels to swiftly deliver accurate information, while maintaining the integrity of professional journalism.
