Preliminary investigations revealed that contaminated water was behind the poisoning of scores of people in two villages in Jerash and Ajloun, the ministry of health said on Monday.
In a statement, the ministry said testing revealed three potential sources of the contaminated water in the Jubah village in the Jerash governorate, including the Zarqa River, a private swimming pool and a school water tank.
Elsewhere, the ministry also said that traces of contamination were also found in some water desalination plants in the Khirbat al-Wahadneh village in the Ajloun governorate.
The ministry added that all these water sources were shut down for now pending further investigations into the incident.
