Ankara: Danish renewable energy firm Orsted said on Friday that it has filed a legal challenge against the US government over the suspension of its Revolution Wind offshore project near Rhode Island. Orsted in a statement with its joint-venture partner Skyborn Renewables said legal action was 'a necessary step to protect the rights of the project.'
According to Anadolu Agency, Orsted has stated that Revolution Wind has spent and committed billions of dollars in reliance upon, and has met the requests of, a thorough review process. The company added that the Revolution Wind project is more than 85% complete, with 58 of its 65 turbines already installed.
The company mentioned that Revolution Wind secured all required federal and state permits in 2023 after extensive reviews spanning more than nine years. This process included consultations with the US Department of Defense and resulted in a formal agreement between the company and the state.
In December, the Trump administration suspended leases for all US offshore wind projects over national security concerns, stopping work at five sites, including Orsted's Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind farms and projects operated by Equinor and Dominion Energy.
