Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Nizar Mhaidat and the Director General of the Bio Signal Medical Supplies Company Kamel al-Saleh on Tuesday inked an agreement to build an electronic drug leaflet system.

The agreement, Mhaidat indicated, aims to enable citizens and people with disabilities to access drug information directly and easily by building an integrated electronic system to computerize the data on the paper leaflets for the JFDA-registered medicines by using QR CODE technology and DATA MATRIX technology.

He pointed out that the system, which is the first of its kind in the region, includes the launch of several services, such as sending and receiving electronic drug leaflets and obtaining approval by the JFDA, in addition to a smartphone application that works using electronic intelligence technology and augmented reality technologies (XML Reader) to read and browse electronic drug leaflets by health organizations, patients and medical staff.

Other services that the system provides include a text-to-speech reader for all the languages in the drug leaflet to enable the visually impaired, the elderly and the illiterate to read them and provide interactive videos and images to help understand the medical content, he added.
