DoS Achieves 86% Completion in Jordan’s Population Enumeration Phase

Amman: Director General of Department of Statistics, Dr. Haider Freihat, provided updates on the implementation of the 2026 General Population and Housing Census, highlighting significant progress made across Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, during a meeting with Governor of Amman, Yasser Adwan, and members of the Governorate's Executive Council, Freihat reported that the enumeration phase of the census is progressing rapidly, keeping pace with the approved schedule. The completion rate for this phase has reached 86% of Jordan's population. Freihat also mentioned that 87% of buildings have been enumerated, and 85.3% of census blocks have been itemized out of a total of 24,058 units nationwide.

Freihat emphasized a notable increase in the use of digital solutions for the census, with 21% of citizens opting for self-enumeration. This approach is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the census and offering citizens more flexibility. The actual enumeration is scheduled to commence on October 1.

The meeting also addressed various executive aspects related to the progress of fieldwork, emphasizing the need for integrated efforts among official and local entities to ensure the project's success. Adwan highlighted the census as a strategic national project that provides essential data for decision-making and development policy formulation.

The discussions were part of ongoing coordination meetings conducted by the department with governorates and partner entities, focusing on monitoring progress and preparing for the next phase to ensure the census is carried out with high standards of quality and accuracy.
