Amman: The Department of Statistics (DoS) Director General Haider Freihat announced on Monday that the completion rate of the 2026 general population and housing census's third phase has reached 90 percent. Freihat expressed confidence in the census proceeding according to plan, with the expectation of concluding this phase by early July.
According to Jordan News Agency, Freihat shared these updates during a regular meeting of the Census Media Committee. He highlighted that the target date for completing the current phase is mid-July, though he acknowledged the possibility of limited extensions in certain areas due to the scale of the operation. Some governorates have already achieved full completion, while Amman demands additional effort because of its population density and extensive geographical spread.
Freihat reassured that the process is progressing smoothly. He emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination between the DoS and local authorities. Meetings with governors and executive councils in governorates such as Aqaba, Ma'an, Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun, and the capital, Amman, are being conducted, with Balqa scheduled for tomorrow. These meetings aim to enhance coordination and elucidate census requirements, ensuring the success of the operation. Freihat noted that similar meetings in other governorates will conclude in the coming weeks.
