Energy Ministry and EU Conclude Study on EV Grid Integration in Jordan

Amman: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in cooperation with the European Union (EU), convened a closing workshop to discuss the findings of a study titled "Options for Using Electric Vehicles for Power System Applications in Jordan." This initiative is part of the EU-funded Technical Assistance to the EU Support to Green Economy in Jordan project.

According to Jordan News Agency, participants underscored the significance of deploying electric vehicles and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies. These are seen as potential solutions to enhance grid flexibility, optimize the use of renewable energy, and align with Jordan's energy transition ambitions. The workshop provided a platform to review key findings and global experiences in utilizing electric vehicles as energy storage systems, while also exploring technical and regulatory opportunities and challenges for implementing these technologies in Jordan. The participants recommended initiating pilot projects and developing necessary regulatory frameworks to facilitate future deployment.

Yacoub Mrar, Director of the Energy Transition Directorate, emphasized the importance of supporting projects that could increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix. He highlighted the potential of energy storage technologies using electric vehicles to improve the efficiency of the power system. Omar Abu Eid, representing the EU Delegation to Jordan, remarked that such projects introduce new concepts that aid the transition toward green energy, offering solutions to bolster the efficiency and sustainability of the electricity system.
