New York, The President of the UN Security Council Ambassador, Ruchira Kambuj, Thursady said India supports efforts aimed at reviving direct negotiations and the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

This came in the Council’s president’s response to a question by a representative of the Jordan News Agency in New York during a press conference held last night about the ways that the council can take to compel Israel to implement International Resolution No. 2334 on settlements. Since the resolution has taken force six years ago, more settlements were built.

Ambassador Kambuj, whose country chairs the Security Council this month, said, “We strongly believe that direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine on all final issues are the best way to reach a two-state solution,” noting that “India has always supported the efforts of the international community to achieve this, and we stand ready.”

The UN Security Council will hold a regular session on December 19 to discuss the Secretary-General’s report on the implementation of the aforementioned resolution.
