The EU Sunday welcomed the cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza and expressed it would work with all parties to uphold stability in the region.

The EU stated that it regrets the loss of civilian lives during the Israeli campaign in Gaza, including children who were killed and injured in Gaza, adding, “It is now important to support the ceasefire and reopen the crossings to allow the entry of humanitarian aid, fuel in particular, and the crossing of workers to enter and exit Gaza.”

The EU renewed its call to all parties to work towards de-escalation in line with the understandings reached during the Aqaba and Sharm El-Sheikh meetings.

Separately, the German Foreign Ministry welcomed the declared cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement and called on both sides to abide by what was announced.

DW cited a statement issued Sunday by the Foreign Ministry expressing “grief over the dead civilians.” The Foreign Ministry urged for the protection of civilians and stressed the need for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
