Amman: Experia, a prominent Jordanian healthcare provider, has entered into a collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to establish the Middle East's first private radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Jordan. This initiative aims to enhance cancer diagnosis and treatment capabilities in the region, aligning with Jordan's national cancer care program set to begin in 2026.

According to Jordan News Agency, IFC will partake in conducting and co-financing a feasibility study to evaluate the project's technical, environmental, and social sustainability. The partnership between Experia and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission will provide access to the Jordan Research and Training Reactor for isotope production, positioning Jordan as a future hub for radiopharmaceutical innovation and export.

Dr. Ahmad AlShamlih, General Manager of Experia, highlighted the project's potential to address regional health challenges by improving the availability of diagnostic and therapeutic isotopes. Cancer remains the second leading cause of mortality in Jordan, with significant pharmaceutical expenditures tied to imports. The facility will produce critical isotopes necessary for treating various cancers.

The economic burden of cancer in Jordan could result in an annual economic loss of USD 3.1 billion. IFC's involvement underscores its commitment to advancing healthcare, creating jobs, and attracting investments in Jordan. The radiopharmaceuticals market in the Middle East and Africa is projected to grow significantly, driven by rising cancer incidence and demand for advanced treatments.

This initiative marks IFC's first support for developing a radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the region, reflecting its strategic focus on innovative healthcare solutions in emerging markets.
