Amman: The Ministry of Environment in Jordan convened a consultative meeting, led by HRH Princess Basma bint Ali, to deliberate on the final draft of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. The session aimed to refine the strategy's objectives centered on conserving natural resources, protecting ecosystems, and promoting sustainable biodiversity use in alignment with the country's sustainable development goals.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting highlighted the necessity for cohesive efforts among governmental bodies, private sectors, and ministries to ensure the successful implementation and attainment of the strategy's objectives. The gathering brought together key officials, including Minister of Local Administration Walid Masri, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat, Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman, and representatives from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, along with Environment Secretary-General Omar Arabiyat.

Participants emphasized that adopting the strategy would bolster Jordan's regional and international stature on biodiversity and environmental concerns. It aims to fulfill international obligations while balancing economic growth with environmental safeguarding. The final draft of the strategy and action plan is set to be presented to the Cabinet for official endorsement. This step is anticipated to pave the way for national initiatives designed to expand protected areas, regulate natural resource usage, and enhance public awareness about biodiversity and environmental conservation.
