Kadugli:South Kordofan A woman and her three children lost their lives in artillery shelling in South Kordofan, Sudan. The attack, which occurred in the state capital of Kadugli, was attributed to forces allied with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), According to Sudan Doctors Network.
According to Anadolu Agency, the nongovernmental medical group identified the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, as responsible for targeting residential areas. The network condemned the incident as a severe breach of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on residential zones and civilians.
The Sudan Doctors Network emphasized the tragedy of an entire family being killed, underscoring the ongoing human toll of such attacks on civilians in Kadugli. They labeled the indiscriminate shelling of civilians as a crime and a clear violation of international conventions.
The group pointed out that these attacks increase the hardship of residents who are already enduring critical humanitarian and security challenges. It called for an immediate cease to civilian attacks and urged respect for international humanitarian law.
Additionally, the network appealed to the UN and human rights organizations to document these violations, hold the perpetrators accountable, and ensure the protection of civilians in conflict zones. There has been no immediate response from the SPLM-N regarding these allegations.
The SPLM-N faction, led by al-Hilu, has been in conflict with the Sudanese government since 2011, seeking autonomy for South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions. On February 22, 2025, the SPLM-N, RSF, and various Sudanese political and armed groups signed a political charter in Nairobi, Kenya, aiming to establish a parallel government to Sudan's authorities.
Since October 25, 2025, the Kordofan states of North, West, and South have seen ongoing conflict between the army and RSF. The broader conflict between Sudan's army and the RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of approximately 13 million people, according to UN and international estimates.
