Amman: The first tourist train journey from Amman to the ancient site of Umm al-Jimal arrived on Saturday via the historic Hijaz Railway. This landmark trip marks a new chapter in promoting domestic tourism to the renowned archaeological site. According to Jordan News Agency, the trip was the result of a collaborative agreement between the Umm al-Jimal Municipality and the Jordan-Hejaz Railway Corporation (JHR). The initiative aims to enhance domestic tourism to Umm al-Jimal, a location recognized as a world heritage site. Onboard the train were 180 individuals from different segments of Jordanian society, who explored the site-an ancient town with remnants from the Nabatean, Late Roman, and Byzantine-Umayyad periods. The visitors were given an insightful tour and a historical briefing about the site's significance by JHR adviser Ali Adebat. Adebat also revealed that two more similar tours are planned for the upcoming spring, indicating a sustained effort to boost tourism and raise awareness about the histo rical and cultural importance of Umm al-Jimal.
