Amman: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, received a phone call from British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to discuss the situation in the Middle East and ways to boost the historic Jordan-UK friendship.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the two countries in various fields. They highlighted the necessity of increasing efforts to achieve a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and the importance of opening all crossings to facilitate the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip, which is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to ongoing Israeli aggression.
The ministers agreed to continue their cooperation to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. They also addressed the serious deterioration in the occupied West Bank, pointing out the continued illegal Israeli actions such as settlement expansion, land confiscation, and the economic, social, and political blockade on the Palestinian people and leadership.
Safadi called for prompt and effective international action to halt these measures, which undermine the possibilities for implementing the two-state solution and achieving a just and lasting peace. He reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of the Israeli aggression against Qatar and expressed the Kingdom’s support for the Gulf Arab state in its efforts to protect its security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of its territory and people.
Safadi congratulated Cooper on her appointment as Foreign Secretary, acknowledging London’s support for the two-state solution and its plan to officially recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly this month. The ministers agreed to maintain coordination on issues of common interest.
