Koura: Pomegranate farmers in the Koura district of Irbid Governorate have officially commenced the harvest season for a significant crop in the northern region, agriculture director Salem Khasawneh announced.
According to Jordan News Agency, the harvest season kicked off early in the hot and arid semi-Jordan Valley areas, known as the Ghor, with the harvesting in other regions with milder weather expected to continue until mid-December. Koura boasts an estimated pomegranate farmland of approximately 2,000 dunams, making it one of the Kingdom’s notable regions for pomegranate orchards. These orchards thrive on the banks of perennially flowing streams such as Zaqlab, Abu Ziad, and Rayan.
Khasawneh detailed the local pomegranate varieties, which include Halawi, Hamadi, Lafani, Mawardi, Sharabi, Mawani, and Zaqlabi. He also noted the wide range of products derived from pomegranates, such as juice, molasses, vinegar, jam, pomegranate seed oil, soap, and natural pomegranate peel powder.
