Amman: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and British Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, held talks Saturday during which they underlined the strong partnership between Jordan and the UK, and their keen interest in further cementing cooperation in various fields.

The ministers discussed regional and international developments, foremost among which was the Palestinian issue and Jordan’s initiative aimed at finding a solution to the Syrian crisis through an Arab-led political process.

Safadi briefed Cleverly on efforts led by Jordan to stop the deterioration in the occupied Palestinian territories through reaching agreements to halt all unilateral measures that lead to more tension and violence and undermine the two-state solution.

The minister told his British counterpart that Jordan is continuing these efforts in coordination with Arab brothers and friends, warning of the gravity of the situation and the chances of further deterioration.

He stressed the need to make every effort to stop the deterioration and find a political horizon for the resumption of serious and effective negotiations to solve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, that lives in security and peace alongside Israel, as the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

Cleverly underscored the UK’s support of Jordan’s efforts and its appreciation of His Majesty King Abdullah’s leadership to stop the deterioration and achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

Safadi also stressed the importance of Britain’s efforts to restore calm through addressing the root causes of tension, and bring about security and stability in the region.

The ministers agreed to meet soon to hold expanded talks on various bilateral and regional issues.
