Amman: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi spoke with Johann Wadephul, the newly appointed German Foreign Minister, over the phone on Thursday to discuss the regional situation and how to strengthen the two nations' long-standing friendship.
According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi congratulated Wadephul on his new role and expressed his eagerness to collaborate to enhance bilateral cooperation and support regional stability and peace initiatives. Wadephul highlighted the value Germany places on its relationship with the Kingdom and its contribution to regional stability and security.
The ministers noted the importance of discussions held during His Majesty King Abdullah II's visit to Germany on April 2, specifically with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. These discussions underscored a shared commitment to bolster bilateral cooperation and coordinate efforts to address regional challenges.
In addressing the situation in Gaza, both ministers emphasized the importance of achieving a lasting ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and coordinated efforts to initiate a just and comprehensive peace process. Safadi reiterated that a two-state solution remains the only viable option.
Safadi also stressed the need for coordinated efforts to implement an exchange deal, secure an immediate truce, and provide adequate relief to address the humanitarian crisis resulting from the aggression.
The ministers discussed the situation in Syria, emphasizing its significance to regional and global security and stability. Safadi noted the importance of supporting Syria's reconstruction based on principles of sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, while ensuring the rights of all Syrians. He praised the European Union's decision to relax sanctions on Syria to aid its stability and reconstruction efforts.
Both ministers agreed to maintain communication and meet at the earliest opportunity.
