Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein participated in the closing session of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was held in Baku.
During the session, the Baku Statement of Foreign Ministers was adopted under the title "United and Steadfast in Facing Emerging Challenges", which included an affirmation of the principles and objectives of the Non-Aligned Movement inspired by the Bandung Conference, and an acknowledgment of preserving the values of pluralism and international cooperation, on which the United Nations Charter and the development plan are based, sustainable development for the year 2030, and that its promotion is essential to strengthening and supporting the three pillars of the United Nations, peace and security, development and human rights.
The statement stressed the importance of increasing global solidarity and collective efforts, strengthening international cooperation and supporting efforts to build and strengthen capacities in developing countries, including through strengthening official development assistance.
The statement stressed that "every country has a duty to refrain in its international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other way that conflicts with the purposes of the United Nations, and that the threat or use of force is a violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations that may never be used as a means to settle international issues, noting that all states must respect territorial integrity, sovereignty, equality in sovereignty, political independence, the sanctity of international borders of other countries, and compliance with the principles of non-interference in internal affairs, as well as stressing that a just, lasting and peaceful solution the question of Palestine, on the basis of the internationally approved standards stipulated in the relevant United Nations resolutions.
The statement denounced "in the strongest terms the recent assault on the sanctity of the Holy Qur'an in the Kingdom of Sweden, on the first day of the blessed Eid al-Adha, outside the central mosque in the capital, Stockholm, and expressed deep regret for the issuance of the authority that granted a permit allowing this procedure to take place."
