Beirut: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi conveyed a message from His Majesty King Abdullah II to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, congratulating him on his election as the President of the Lebanese Republic. The message included an official invitation for President Aoun to visit the Kingdom, with both nations set to coordinate the visit's date. President Aoun expressed his gratitude for King Abdullah II's ongoing support and emphasized his desire to strengthen cooperation in all areas.
According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi's visit also included discussions with several key Lebanese leaders, including Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib, Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. These meetings focused on regional trends and enhancing bilateral relations between Jordan and Lebanon.
In a press statement following his meeting with President Aoun, Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering support for Lebanon as it seeks to overcome past challenges and regain security and stability. He highlighted King Abdullah II's personal commitment to supporting the Lebanese army, emphasizing the importance of providing it with necessary tools and resources.
Safadi expressed optimism about Lebanon's new leadership, stating that it could serve Lebanon's interests and contribute to regional security. He also stressed the importance of Israel respecting international agreements, ceasing violations in Lebanon, and working towards a just peace in the region, including the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
During his meetings, Safadi discussed the situation in Syria and expressed support for the safe return of Syrian refugees. He emphasized Jordan's commitment to stabilizing Syria and aiding in its reconstruction, creating conditions for refugees to return safely and with dignity.
Safadi praised Parliament Speaker Berri for his efforts in resolving Lebanon's past difficulties and expressed appreciation for Caretaker Prime Minister Mikati's role in strengthening Jordanian-Lebanese ties. He reiterated Jordan's longstanding support for Lebanon's security, stability, and sovereignty, expressing hope for a new beginning for Lebanon.
