GAM Declares Medium-Level Weather Emergency

Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has declared a medium-level state of emergency starting Saturday evening in response to expected weather conditions, according to official forecasts.

According to Jordan News Agency, GAM spokesperson Nasser Rahamneh confirmed that field teams are on standby to handle any reports received by the emergency operations center in Tela' Al-Ali. He urged citizens to report weather-related issues by calling the unified contact center at (102 or 117180).

The municipality advised the public to exercise caution by avoiding flood-prone areas, refraining from connecting roof drainage pipes to the sewage system to prevent overflows, and disposing of waste properly to avoid clogging rainwater drains.

GAM also urged property owners to check submersible pumps in basements and commercial establishments below street level, while traders were advised to take precautions when storing goods in warehouses and underground levels.

Additionally, contractors and construction site owners were reminded to secure building materials to prevent them from washing away and blocking drainage systems.
