GAM’s “From Gray to Green” Initiative Recognized Among Global Top 30

Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality's (GAM) "From Gray to Green" initiative was chosen by the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation as one of the top 30 model initiatives in its seventh cycle. The initiative, which addresses Jordan's severe water scarcity by turning treated greywater into a community asset for urban farming and sustainable public parks, was chosen from among 400 applications by 248 cities in 60 countries.

According to Jordan News Agency, the selection is an international recognition of GAM's efforts in adopting innovative and sustainable urban solutions towards enhancing environmental sustainability, improving resource utilization, and activating community participation in public spaces and parks, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda, GAM said in a press release on Monday.

The initiative is expected to be included in the Guangzhou Award's Urban Innovation Database, allowing for the sharing of the Jordanian experience with cities worldwide and facilitating learning and knowledge exchange between cities.

The international recognition bolsters Amman's presence on the global urban innovation map and underscores its commitment to developing high-quality projects that help improve quality of life, promote sustainability, and engage the local community in creating more efficient and sustainable urban solutions, GAM pointed out.
