Gaza: The Gaza Municipality on Monday warned of a deepening humanitarian catastrophe, stating that the city is experiencing a severe water crisis following the total halt in water supply from Israel's Mekorot water company since Sunday and the ongoing fuel shortages affecting the operation of remaining wells.

According to Jordan News Agency, more than 1.2 million residents and displaced people are now at risk of dying from thirst, the municipality said, amid what it described as a deliberate starvation policy imposed on the besieged enclave.

The municipality called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently to prevent the collapse of essential services. It said that per capita daily water availability has dropped to under 5 liters-and in some displacement centers, to as little as 2 liters-far below the minimum survival threshold.

According to the statement, Israeli forces have destroyed 63 wells, four major water reservoirs, and over 115,000 meters of water networks. The main desalination plant in northern Gaza is now completely offline, leaving large parts of the city without access to water for days.

Municipal teams are reportedly engaging with local and international stakeholders to resume the flow of water from Mekorot and mitigate the unfolding disaster.
