Ottawa: His Majesty King Abdullah II and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney engaged in discussions on enhancing the partnership between Jordan and Canada, as well as addressing the latest regional developments during their meeting on Monday.

According to Jordan News Agency, this meeting in Ottawa marked the first encounter between King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Carney since the latter took office. His Majesty emphasized the strong ties between Jordan and Canada, expressing Jordan's eagerness to further collaborate and strengthen these relations. The King acknowledged Canada's support for Jordan's development and highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, education, and healthcare.

The conversation also explored opportunities to enhance investment cooperation to boost both countries' economies. King Abdullah II acknowledged Canada's critical role as a partner in promoting regional peace and stability and commended its humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Both leaders agreed on the urgency of stopping the war on Gaza and ensuring the continuous flow of relief and humanitarian aid to civilians in the affected areas.

King Abdullah II also called for de-escalation in the West Bank and other parts of the region, emphasizing respect for state sovereignty as essential for peace and stability. He reiterated Jordan's support for Syria's security, stability, and territorial integrity.

Prime Minister Carney expressed his appreciation for the visit and praised the bilateral ties and Jordan's stabilizing efforts in the region under King Abdullah II's leadership. He announced Canada's allocation of $28.4 million to support Jordan in various sectors, including development, education, health, and job creation, along with enhancing Jordan's defense and security capabilities.

King Abdullah II reiterated the need for international support of Palestinian rights, advocating for a two-state solution as the path to achieving comprehensive peace. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Jordan's Ambassador to Canada Sabah Al Rafie, and Canadian officials. Prior to the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi held talks with Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
