Germany Maintains Russia Sanctions Amid US-Russia Diesel Agreement

Berlin:Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to sanctions against Russia despite a new agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding diesel supplies.

According to Anadolu Agency, German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius stated in Berlin that Russian diesel would not be supplied to Germany, emphasizing the country's stance on maintaining sanctions against Russia. Kornelius highlighted that Germany is working with its European partners on additional sanctions and stressed the nation's unwavering support for Ukraine.

A spokesperson for German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche confirmed that Germany "fully supports" the existing sanctions packages. The spokesperson added that Germany's energy supply is diversified and independent of Russian oil.

The agreement between Trump and Putin, reached during a phone conversation, involves Russia supplying more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and global markets immediately. Additional supplies of 500,000 tons are expected in November, followed by 1 million tons and another 3 million tons, contingent on the condition of Russian diesel refineries. Putin noted that these supplies would benefit the global economy, and the leaders also discussed various issues, including the global energy sector, the war in Ukraine, the situation in Iran, and bilateral relations.
