Amman: Dr. Silke Launert, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, announced Germany's intention to join Jordan's Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) as an associate member.
According to Jordan News Agency, the minister stated during her visit to the research center: "SESAME is a shining example of scientific convergence between cultures and nations," highlighting that the ministry will initiate the process of joining the Jordanian facility.
SESAME Chairman Rolf Heuer remarked that Germany's membership strengthens years of regional cooperation at SESAME, supports the research conducted by the center's researchers, and opens the door to further progress.
Dr. Khaled Toukan, SESAME Director, emphasized the center's success in innovation and diplomacy through science. He noted that with Germany's involvement, SESAME will achieve a higher level of excellence and broaden its horizons for scientific research and innovation.
SESAME is a third-generation light source facility featuring six operational beamlines. Since its inauguration, the center has facilitated 1,158 research projects from 47 countries, resulting in the publication of 157 scientific papers in top-tier international peer-reviewed journals.
Germany is set to become the center's first associate member, joining eight other member states already involved with the facility.
